5 Reasons You Can’t Miss This Year’s Women In Bio - Capital Region's HERstory Gala

Dear BioBuzz and Women In Bio Members and Supporters,

As the planning lead for the upcoming 6th Annual Women In Bio HERstory Gala, I am thrilled to not only extend a heartfelt invitation to you all but also share the reasons why you do not want to miss this event.

The gala holds a special place in my heart for many reasons. As a Johns Hopkins graduate student, a proud female veteran transitioning into the biotech industry, and now a dedicated BioBuzz voice for the life science community, attending the 2023 HERstory Gala was the best decision I could have made. The Gala is more than just an evening of celebration and connection, it’s also about gaining knowledge and being empowered. It's an opportunity for us to come together as a community and learn from one another. I challenge you to make at least 5 new connections at the event!

But first, don’t forget to secure your spot by purchasing your ticket today. Thank you and I look forward to having you join us on May 9th as we honor the remarkable achievements of our peers and connect with the champions who are paving the way for you and me - our next generation of trailblazers.

The HERstory Gala is the premier event for Women in Bio - Capital Region’s chapter and supporters. This elegant event attracts men and women from industry, government, nonprofits, and academia from across the Capital Region Metro Area and provides unique opportunities to meet with some of the region’s most successful women.

The focus of HERstory Gala is on highlighting leaders in life sciences who have made a significant impact in the region during the year. Attendees will have the privilege of listening to our distinguished keynote speakers, Helen Sabzevari Ph.D., President and CEO, Precigen, and Kelly Schulz, CEO of the Maryland Tech Council, share their life story and career insights. There is also a segment of the event allocated for the presentation of the 2024 Rising Star Award Winner.

If you have not been to a HERstory Gala in the past, you are in for a treat! Here are some of the reasons why you will not want to miss this year’s event.

1. Gain Industry Insights

Hear from incredible women trailblazers. Helen Sabzevari, Ph.D. President and CEO of Precigen, and Kelly Schulz, CEO of Maryland Tech Council, will be giving keynote addresses during the dinner. Both women are remarkable pioneers and champions in the BioHealth Capital Region.

Women-focused events create a supportive and inclusive environment. The keynote segment of the event is intended to be highly interactive. Our distinguished speakers will share career highlights, influential figures who have shaped their careers, advice on dealing with adversities, lessons learned, and strategies for women to rise into leadership roles. Staying informed about the latest developments in life sciences can give you a competitive edge in your career.

2. Advocacy and Empowerment

The winners of the 2024 Rising Star Award will be announced at the Gala. The Rising Star Award is a chapter-specific honor recognizing an early or mid-career WIB member who has made a substantial impact in the local bioscience sector through community service, mentorship, and outstanding professional achievement. Rising Star nominees are chosen by HERstory Gold Sponsors as well as chapter Leading Sponsors.

3. Networking Opportunities

Catch up with old friends and make new connections. Networking can lead to valuable connections, potential collaborations, mentorship opportunities, and even job prospects.

The evening will start with libations and refreshments, where attendees will get the opportunity to have meaningful conversations. Attendees range from students and early career professionals to seasoned leaders and prominent professionals - no matter which level of the career ladder they are in, everyone is warm and welcoming. The HERstory Gala is a great way to meet people without the intimidation and pressure you might feel at other networking events. Whether you are an entrepreneur aiming to grow your startup or someone who is actively in the job market, you never know where these connections may lead!

4. Inspiration and Motivation

Surrounding yourself with successful and accomplished women in life sciences is highly motivating. Connecting with and learning from the experiences of women who have overcome challenges in the industry can be an incredibly inspiring experience. This exposure to diverse narratives not only provides valuable insights but also serves as a means for setting and achieving ambitious career goals.

5. Community Building

Attending events hosted by Women In Bio allows you to become part of a supportive and thriving community. Sharing experiences, challenges, and successes with like-minded individuals can create a strong sense of camaraderie.

Step into an evening of empowerment and join us for the 6th Annual Women In Bio (WIB) HERstory Gala – where we honor the past, celebrate the present, and amplify the future! Get ready to make herstory together as we gather for an unforgettable evening of inspiration and connection with the unstoppable force that is women in life sciences.
