Buzzin’ Brood: Student Spotlight – Sarah Ivey, FCC Biotech Bootcamp Graduate

Sarah Ivey’s journey into biotech started with a personal mission - to better understand the science behind healthcare and make informed decisions for her family. What began as curiosity led her to the FCC Biotech Bootcamp, where she gained hands-on lab experience, connected with industry professionals, and discovered a new passion for biotech. Now, she’s ready to transition into the field and contribute to advancements that put patients first.

How did you get here?

I wanted to be informed about the biotech industry to make more informed decisions when it came to my family's health. That’s why I initially signed up to join the FCC Biotech Bootcamp. The FCC Biotech Bootcamp allowed me to learn lab processes, talk to professionals, and see how the advances in the biotech field have made people's lives better. I am inspired and look forward to transitioning to the biotech industry.

What is currently blowing your mind right now?

Transitioning from another industry, I am surprised by all the information I was able to retain in just four weeks. I learned everything from reading/performing SOPs to learning how to properly gown for clean rooms. I fully feel equipped and confident to start an entry-level job in the biotech industry.

Fun Fact: I also learned that camels are unique among mammals because their red blood cells have a nucleus.

If you could explain yourself right now in only emojis, what would those be?

If you could travel into the future… What does your LinkedIn Headline say?

If you had unlimited resources to start your own company, what problem would you solve? What would be the name of your company?

If I had my own company, I would find a way to grow fruits and vegetables in different environments. I would call the company Health Garden.

With a fresh perspective and a newfound confidence in lab techniques, Sarah is eager to step into the biotech industry and make an impact. Connect with her on LinkedIn and follow her journey!
