Keystone LifeSci Collaborative Appoints Maurie Smith as Managing Director

The Keystone LifeSci Collaborative (KLSC) announced the appointment of Maurie Smith as its first-ever Managing Director. This pivotal hire marks a major milestone for the organization, fulfilling its objective to recruit a leader dedicated to advancing life sciences initiatives in the Greater Philadelphia region. Smith brings over a decade of experience in anchor-based economic development, with expertise in managing large-scale collaboratives and driving industry-focused initiatives.

About Maurie Smith

Maurie Smith steps into her new role as Managing Director of KLSC with a wealth of experience in anchor-based economic development and collaborative leadership. Her previous role as Vice President at U3 Advisors, a national consulting firm, saw her lead the Organizational Design and Capacity Building Practice Area. Smith has a proven track record in fostering sustainable, resilient communities through partnerships with institutions across the U.S., focusing on economic development programs. Her work has spanned key projects in cities like Fort Worth, College Park, and Philadelphia, where she led workforce development initiatives and physical infrastructure investments in underserved neighborhoods.

Smith’s initial focus at KLSC will be on strengthening partnerships with life science industry leaders and public organizations, as well as expanding the Collaborative’s reach into underrepresented counties in the Greater Philadelphia area. Her leadership promises to elevate KLSC’s efforts to enhance regional competitiveness in life sciences through collaboration and innovation.

The Keystone LifeSci Collaborative (KLSC) is a growing network of life science industry leaders, academic institutions, and community partners dedicated to advancing the competitiveness of Pennsylvania’s life sciences sector. Supported by funding from the American Rescue Plan’s Good Jobs Challenge, KLSC currently consists of nearly 40 C-suite life science partners and over 75 public and community organizations. Together, they aim to address shared business priorities, drive innovation, and bolster job growth in the region.

The Collaborative’s members include prominent companies like Adaptimmune, Pfizer, Century Therapeutics, and Iovance Biotherapeutics, among others. By fostering partnerships and providing a platform for collaboration, KLSC seeks to strengthen the life sciences ecosystem throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
